PROGRESS REPORT #2

Work completed to date:
So far, we have successfully completed one of the main goals of the project, which was to operate an awareness booth. Our goal for the booth was to promote Free Ride Friday, sponsored by Hooptie Ride during Homecoming Weekend, and hand out fliers associated with the event. We got feedback from No Hokie Left Behind that the Free Ride Friday was the most successful it has ever been due to our efforts of promotion. They had a record number of people use the free Hooptie ride that night. We have also scheduled our Percentage Night at Moe’s.

What’s going well:
The team itself is meshing well with each other. Also when it comes down completing tasks, everyone does their part in making sure it’s done promptly and well. Our current task at hand is to expand the scope of the project and the ideas created by everyone in the group were all viable. We created a table with ideas to expand our project scope in our GoogleDoc, outlining the description, pros/cons, and the estimated time to complete the deliverable. We have gotten our scope approved by Lt. Goad and he is very excited about our new ideas.

What’s not going well and why:
Simply trying to find time to meet outside of class is the hardest obstacle for this group. With everyone having different obligations such as work, other groups, and assignments, it has made finding time to meet take longer than expected for all of us. We have done lots of work through Google Docs to combat this issue as it is easy for us to view each other’s work this way. We also had a tough time scheduling a meeting with our project sponsor as he is very busy. This made us nervous because we needed to speak to him about increasing our scope. However, we officially had our meeting and our scope has been approved.

Suggestions/Issues:
One of the possible solutions we have for not being able to meet in person is to delegate the tasks that need to be completed and have a soft due date for all of us to compile the work together in the GoogleDoc. If an individual has a problem or a reason that they can not complete a task, then they contact the group and switch tasks with someone so that the workload remains evenly dispersed.

Project changes:
We have gotten approval for our increased scope. We will be adding a percentage night at Moe’s on December 6th. This money will help No Hokie Left Behind purchase more charging stations for restaurants and bars downtown. We are additionally doing a social media campaign and re-vamp. This will include several weeks of planned Facebook posts for the NHLB account. Our posts will be raising awareness and promoting their Free Hooptie Ride Days in the Spring semester. Lt. Goad said he never has time to create posts, so we are providing him with meaningful awareness posts. We will also be creating a new profile picture and several cover photos. Additionally, we have spoken about creating an awareness website. Our plans for this are still in the works, but we plan to use GoogleSites or Wordpress.
