Probability/Impact Matrix
Risk Register
Risk Name: “Project changes are defined and resolved too late”
Rank: 1
Description: When issues arise and changes need to occur in our project, it is important we solve them quickly.
Category: Project Changes
Root Cause/Triggers: Professor/sponsor doesn’t approve something in our project.
Risk Response/Strategy: We must be proactive and communicate with whomever the issue concerns as fast as possible to get it worked out before it is too late and it affects our project in a negative way.
Risk owner: Jenna, Project Manager
Probability: High
Impact: High
Status: Just already, we have had lots of trouble meeting with our sponsor to confirm increasing our scope as our professor has recommended. Our sponsor is quite busy but all we want to do is confirm our scope so we can move along with our project. We are trying to communicate as quickly as we can with our sponsor to get something set up fast.
Risk Name: “Scope is too small”
Rank: 2
Description: We are concerned our project scope is too small, thus our efforts will fall short and will not serve our purpose and our wants of promoting No Hokie Left Behind
Category: Scope
Root Cause/Triggers: Professor believes our project doesn’t provide enough impact
Risk Response/Strategy: We must ensure our project scope meets our goals of impacting the community by informing and promoting No Hokie Left Behind in the way we want to. We should also speak with our project sponsor about additional ways we can impact the community with the No Hokie Left Behind organization.
Risk owner: Jenna, Project Manager
Probability: Medium
Impact: Medium
Status: From the getgo, we were worried our project wouldn’t be impactful enough. We got a second opinion from our professor, who agreed our project scope wasn’t wide enough. We are currently working to widen our scope with the support of our project sponsor upon his approval of our new ideas.

Risk Name: “External factors prevent us from carrying out our entire scope”
Rank: 3
Description: Because we have not been able to meet with our sponsor to agree upon our new project scope, we are concerned external factors such as not having the login information for social media accounts may affect us. These external factors can be detrimental in our efforts to impact the community in the way which we have sought out.
Category: Scope
Root Cause/Triggers: Project Sponsor can’t find all necessary information to carry out our project scope
Risk Response/Strategy: We must do our best to help our project sponsor gather all the resources he can to give us the missing information. If he cannot find the missing information, we must move forward and have a new plan for our social media campaign idea.
Risk owner: Jenna, Project Manager
Probability: Medium
Impact: Medium
Status: Our project sponsor expressed some concern over not having the login information for the social media accounts. We are trying to set up a meeting to discuss this and to explain our social media campaign idea to him. If he cannot find the login information, we will not be able to carry out our scope in the way we sought out. However, we must respond to issues and changes proactively (see 1st risk above).
