Our team is doing our project based on No Hokies Left Behind.  No Hokies Left Behind is a collaborative effort promoted on campus addressing safety on campus and around Blacksburg among our college students and the greater community.  This collaborative effort is sponsored by the Blacksburg Police, VT Police, Blacksburg Transit, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, Virginia Tech Athletics, and Virginia Tech Office of Emergency Management.  Our group’s goal is to host a booth on campus handing out promotional wristbands, encouraging students to download both the BT4U and LiveSafe apps on their phones, as well as handing out flyers informing students on how and why we want to promote safety in the Blacksburg area and around campus.  Jenna Sharer, our Project Manager, has been in contact with Sgt. Thomas Sarver, who is our team sponsor and the main contact of the No Hokie Left Behind effort.  Our other group members are Timothy Kim, Andrew Romanczyk, Mahnoor Malik, and Aaron Fraites.

We decided to work with the No Hokie Left Behind program because we believe in the intrinsic value the program provides. As inhabitants of a college town, alcohol has a prominent presence in our community, and while it is an avenue for a pleasurable time, we acknowledge the dangers associated with alcohol and driving under the influence. Thus, No Hokie Left Behind allows us to cultivate more awareness towards the prevention of drinking and driving, and making Virginia Tech a safer community. No Hokie Left Behind’s motto of “Go with friends. Stay with friends. Leave with friends. We pledge to leave no Hokie behind” resonates with our goal as students to promote safety in all aspects of college life.

Our goal in this project is to deliver a better business plan for No Hokie Left Behind so that they can bring more awareness to their cause, both in the present and in the future. We plan to deliver at least one awareness event for them in downtown Blacksburg where we will set up an information booth to educate students about No Hokie Left Behind’s message. We also plan to create and distribute flyers and other marketing materials for No Hokie Left Behind to better raise awareness around campus as a whole.

We will take into account of two measurements of success: one for our team and another for our project. Our team’s success will be measured by the tangible contributions to our deliverables and the time each of us has allocated for our project. Our deliverables will be split into smaller pieces and delegated to each team member, so the successful completion and composition of our smaller tasks will provide us a clear measurement of team success. The time allocation will be measured by attendance and participation in our team meetings/work sessions. We expect all team members to complete their delegated tasks and actively participate in most of our team meetings. The success of our project will be measured by the overall satisfaction of our Project Sponsor and the completion of at least one awareness event. Satisfaction will be reflected by our evaluations which our Project Sponsor will provide to Professor Deane.
